From its inception, the beautiful game of soccer has continually found ways to improve the sport, resulting in an enjoyable experience for the players, coaches, and fans. These adjustments include perfecting the most essential piece of equipment, the soccer ball. Updates are constantly applied to the materials used and construction of the ball, while one factor has remained constant - the soccer ball size.

The first soccer ball specifications, or football codes, were introduced in 1863 by the Football Association. After initial revisions in 1872, the specs have largely been kept in place and maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). These rules can be found in Law 2: The Ball. These rules also apply to the FIFA Quality Programme for Footballs. The Law only applies to a Regulation Size 5 Soccer Ball, and with the following characteristics:
